Considered as the county’s premier sports facilities, 4S Ranch Sports Park is an existing 25 acre County of San Diego recreation complex that includes baseball fields, multi-purpose fields, roller hockey arena, swim complex, tennis courts, a gymnasium and a Boys and Girls Club.
With its commitment to recreational youth sports organizations and the conservation of its precious resource, the county replaced its grassy turfs to drought-proof playing fields. This project aims to drastically cut water and maintenance cost with its use of durable synthetic turf.
In addition, the apparent number of other improvements needed at the park during community outreach meetings with sports leagues and the general public were addressed by the team.
The team prepared a park master plan and a construction cost estimate, assisted the community in selecting Phase 1 improvements that could be constructed under the County’s $2.162M budget, and prepared a Phased master plan. Our team prepared construction documentation for Phase 1 improvements which included conversion of 5.8 acres of natural turf to synthetic turf and construction of 1.4 acres of decomposed granite paved areas suitable for park users to set up “easy-up” shade structures, structural paving to allow maintenance of ball field lights, a new backstop, ADA improvements, and safety enhancements to the existing backstops. The team also provided construction phase services that included bid review and assistance with contractor selection, submittal review, response to RFIs, site observation visits and preparation of site visit punch lists.
